What Actually is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness isn't about clearing your mind of all thoughts—that's a common misconception that often sets people up for failure. It's simply the practice of paying attention to the present moment intentionally, and without judgment.
Starting Small
You don't need to sit cross-legged on a cushion for 45 minutes. Try incorporating mindfulness into everyday activities:
- Mindful Eating: Pay attention to the texture, taste, and temperature of the first three bites of your meal.
- Mindful Walking: Notice the sensation of your feet hitting the ground and the air on your skin on your commute.
The "Weather Report" Check-in
Once a day, pause and ask yourself: "What is my internal weather right now?" Is it stormy? Overcast? Sunny and clear? Just observe it without trying to change the weather.
